Ed, I hope you are doing well. I don’t think we have ever met. I am a long time CT resident (Wethersfield). We are planning to move south in about 5 years for the winter months and spend the rest of the time living in Narragansett. The plan is to fish all year long. I would like you opinion on FL regarding East or West coast, fishing and nice areas to live.
We will be taking trips to do some recon ourselves. All the best to you.
Pete
Pete,
In case you’re unaware, for several reasons the present real estate market in Florida is total chaos. Frankly it should be avoided for the time being. Perhaps in 5 years things will settle down. I lived on the west coast for 7 years, near Charlotte Harbor. Gulf coast fishing there is mainly done in shallow water, perfect for fly-fishing. I enjoyed it. You’ll need a flats boat or a kayak to access much of it.
On the flip side, Water quality issue have plagued this coast for years. Red tide and blue-green algae. This site will explain more https://captainsforcleanwater.org/
In terms of popularity big towns such as Tampa, Sarasota and Naples are hot, offering more services, more entertainment and better beaches. They are also more expensive, more crowded, and have more traffic.
Hope that helps
